Christmas is Coming

by Chris Vegvary

So Christmas is coming around again, and Santa should be dropping down your chimney sometime in the next few weeks. What are you prepared to do about that? You could always disguise yourself as an elf, or one of Santa’s reindeer, or if you think you can seduce and then capture him, try wearing a sexy Mrs. Santa Clause outfit to distract him.

Your pet may need to outwit Santa as well, and you want to be able to give them every opportunity. In order to trick Santa, for whatever reason you may be doing it…ok, let’s be honest: you’re trying to get that sack he’s carrying away from him because he broke into your house and started putting boxes that don’t belong to you under your tree. Who does this guy think he is, right?

There may be another way to confuse Santa, however, but keep this on the downlow. If you want to freak Santa out, get yourself a Santa costume, get yourself a beard, and wait for him to come down the chimney. Once he hesitates, that’s your chance to react. String him up with Christmas lights and get that bag away from him, and there you have it: captured Santa. After that, he’s yours to do with what you will, but I would recommend letting him finish his rounds first…don’t want any children out there to not get their presents.

Protect yourself from jolly intruders bearing presents by dressing like them and throwing them off their guard before Christmas gets here. It’s just around the corner now…

Why is the Rocky Horror Picture Show Still so Popular?

by Chris Vegvary

For the life of me, I can’t understand what’s so appealing about The Rocky Horror Picture Show. People dress up like the characters from the film and go out and have these events where they watch the movie, talk along with it, sing, and dance. Is it really that powerful?

Whenever I think of that movie, the game Maniac Mansion comes to mind (those of you who have played the game may be able to see the correlation between the game’s plot and the film’s plot). In The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a couple of “squares” who show up to a castle when their ride breaks down, and from there, things just get weird.  We’re introduced to a cast of characters that I can definitely say is like no other, including the transvestite mad doctor, Frank N. Furter, who is played by Tim Curry. I can’t really describe the plot any further without confusing myself all to hell, so I’m going to assume you’ve seen it.

While I personally just “don’t get it,” there appear to be plenty of people out there that do, and they’re making the film culturally important. It’s preserved now in the US National Film Registry because it had such an impact on people. It’s been in theaters longer than any other movie in the history of movies. So while I still can’t say I like the film, I do like the plot behind it, and while I’ll never go to a theater dressed up as a character from this movie (or any other movie), I may decide to watch it again soon and maybe I’ll find a new appreciation for it.

But you, you clearly have a love for all things Rocky Horror, and that’s what this paragraph is all about. If you plan on dressing up for your next adventure to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, you’re going to need a good costume, right? Then follow the link and be overjoyed.

Are We on the Verge of Remaking Chucky?

by Chris Vegvary
Charles Lee Ray, AKA Chucky

In 1988, the world was introduced to Charles Lee Ray, a fictional serial killer (played by Brad Dourif) who uses voodoo magic to escape police by transferring his soul into the body of a Good Guy Doll. In the first three films in the Child’s Play series, Charles Lee Ray, or Chucky, as he is more commonly known, tried to escape the body of the doll he was trapped in by hunting down the first child he came into contact with after becoming a doll: Andy Barkley. Once Chucky’s plans were thwarted for a third time, he was dropped into a giant fan, and that seemed to be enough to get him to move on to someone else.
Chucky and his girlfriend, Tiffany

In his fourth excursion out into the world, Chucky looks quite a bit different, having been stitched back together after his last failed attempt at becoming human again. The fourth film in the series, Bride of Chucky, invites you to laugh along with Chucky and his girlfriend Tiffany (whom he has also trapped the soul of into a doll) as they go cross-country killing in a less serious attempt at horror. Again, it did not end well for Chucky, what with his girlfriend turning on him in the end.
Chucky, Tifanny, and their son Glen

By the time Seed of Chucky comes out, Hollywood seems to think something different needs to be done in order to keep the Child’s Play series fresh. So, much like the movie Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, but without all the seriousness and drama that was a part of that film, Seed of Chucky brings Chucky out of the realm of movies and into reality. Jennifer Tilly, who played Tiffany in Bride of Chucky, plays herself in the film and Redman is also featured. In this film, we saw that Chucky’s baby that was born from Tiffany at the end of Bride of Chucky is very much real and alive, and is searching for his parents. While Chucky is defeated one last time, room is left for a sequel as always.

Now we come to Curse of Chucky, the only film in the Child’s Play series so far to go direct-to-DVD. While I still have yet to see this one, I know that Chucky is no longer the stitched-up doll that he’s been since the fourth film. Instead, he resembles the doll from the first three films, undamaged, and Curse of Chucky takes place twenty-five years after the first film. So what does this mean for Chucky, that his most recent foray into the world of horror was not shown in theaters? Are we never to see another sequel to this franchise? My guess is no, we will probably not.

There’s been talk of remaking Child’s Play in the past few years. Brad Dourif is still attached to play and voice Chucky in the film, so that’s a plus. It seems the killer doll formula has been a little too overdone, but a remake could shake things up a bit, and at this point, when Chucky’s popularity seems to be at its lowest in terms of people going to see it in theaters, this could be just what they need to put him on top. Now, as for you, who can’t get enough Chucky in your life, I’d like you to take a look at the links posted throughout the article to find yourself some very interesting costume choices for your next costume party or Halloween, or what have you. Pet Costumes are Popular

Evil Pets and Their Halloween Costumes
Halloween is fun for pets. They love their parents and are always having play time with them. If the pets are used to wearing a sweater or any other type of clothing for them, then wearing a Halloween costume will not be a problem. Try a few months ahead of the event if the animal is not used to this and gently show them it will not hurt them or scare them. Cats love to play with their tails. So, they will think it is a new adventure to explore.
Pirate Dog

A lot of times the parents will dress up as the same as their pets. Sometimes they just want to dress up their pets only. One of the most popular costumes this year is zombies. This would be a great concept to try with your pet.
If you own a large dog like a rot, pit, or anything else bulky and mean, they are already scary enough. Buy a dog costume that will cover their body by using snaps or Velcro. There can be leg coverings also. If there is not, then use friendly dog safe makeup to blend the dog’s legs in with the body cover. Attach the zombie head covering to their head. Never cover their face to keep them safe.
If you just want to have Halloween fun and go tamer, just buy a sweater that says, “I love zombies.” Or other sayings and designs like a zombie hunter, biohazard, skulls, and more. Dad or mom can have matching t-shirts. If the parents were zombie hunters, then they would carry a crossbow or a pistol designed to kill zombies on contact. Use a head covering for the dog that would give them a weapon to use. Like a zombie killing bone or an extra set of teeth.
If you are having a problem in finding an evil pet costume, try this idea. Measure your dog. Then, go to the craft store and buy fake fur. Use elastic or Velcro to attach to the fake fur. This also will be attached to your pet safely.  Take the fur and use latex face paint for skin that will be open oozing sores. Or just look for wounds that are for sale for Halloween. Glue them on with craft glue and dry completely. Do not forget to add blood if necessary.
You can comb your dog or cat’s fur to blend into the fake fur, if they have long hair. Do the same for each leg to blend into the costume. Create a head covering that will Velcro around their neck. Remember to comb their hair into it to blend in. Your pet will never have blood or face paint on them. They will stay clean and have no skin allergies.  But, they will have a lot of fun!
The parents can take their creation and match it to their costume by shopping around and adding accessories to it.  They will look well complemented and get a lot of looks walking down the street. If you do it correctly, the animal’ wounds will look real! Even add glow in the dark to the wounds for a creepy, eerie affect!

If you are to busy, like most of us these days, to make a costume for your beloved pet, don't fret, because the selection of costumes for your pet, is huge this year. Pet costumes abound. Just look around and remember, it's all about having fun.

ZOMBIE COSTUMES ARE ALL THE RAGE

ZOMBIE APOCOLYPSE

Watch out for the zombies! They are everywhere in 2012! With the help of the AMC show, “The Walking Dead”, that has been a hit since it premiered in 2010. As far as Halloween costumes, decorations and props, zombies are all the rage! This year, there seems to be quite a bit of new zombie paraphilia.

The whole green slime thing may freak people out but that is what makes it so awesome! Green slime and zombies just go together. How can young boys and teens resist green slime?  It seems as though the neon green color stands for some type of toxic. Cool!

Not only can young kids and adults enjoy being zombies but there are new costumes that were made with sexy girls in mind! You can now find plenty of sexy zombie costumes, so all those little hard bodies can look just as wretched. You can be a whole family of zombies for Halloween!
Sexy Lady Zombie

Zombies do not leave anyone out! There are prom queens, doctors, nurses, cheerleaders, etc. There is a huge zombie walk in Asbury Park, N.J., where zombies gather the streets. The costumes are amazing and people really put thought into their “undead” creations. If you do not want to dress up and you are just interested in the gory spectacle that is totally accepted.

The countdown for Halloween is here! So, get your thinking caps on! I mean, if you are not a zombie, I forgot you are always on the prowl for brains! It is the best time of year to be creative and bring out your inner ghoul!

Time to start thinking of Halloween!

GET IN GEAR, HALLOWEEN IS HERE!
The weather seems to be changing and it is getting darker earlier. The kids are back to school. The pools will be closing, the boardwalks will become desolate and you will no longer see lifeguards on the beach. It seems like such an unhappy ending but the thought of bonfires and hot cocoa will give you something to look forward to! Time to start unpacking your jeans and hoodie’s because you know how September is!
September is that time of year when it is cold in the early morning and warm in the afternoon, which can be obnoxious when trying to dress appropriately! The great part is that Halloween is right around the corner. You know what that means! Get your Halloween costumes ready because the festivities for All Hallows Eve will arrive sooner than you think!

The department stores are starting to display their autumn and Halloween selections. You have to be prepared! Check out the latest trends in Halloween costumes! There are always new fads for each year and the costumes are getting pretty interesting! It seems like popular cartoons and TV shows always come out with new costumes for the season.
Costumes are really intricate nowadays! They have come a long way from the plastic mask and thin costumes that came in boxes at one time. You can basically choose any character you would like to be and there is a good guarantee they will be available! You can really purchase theater quality costumes! So get into gear because that time of year is almost here!

Back to school - Now it's time to make Halloween plans

The summer is almost over and -as always- it has gone by way too fast! As the old saying goes, “time flies when you’re having fun!” Hopefully you had a nice, relaxing vacation and you didn’t have to work too hard. But if you’re one of the many parents that work harder on vacation than any other time of the year…you’re not alone. Keeping up with the little ones can be hectic. But as much as the kids dread going “back-to-school” in September, sometimes that’s what parents look forward to most of all.
Don’t feel guilty…I’m sure most moms and dads breathe a sigh of relief when the bus pulls up to pick them up on the first day of school. Not only do we have the added stress of making summer plans and the financial burden of taking the family to theme parks and water parks (not to mention the insanely high gas prices) but then, when we near the end of the season… we have to head to the mall for every parent’s worst nightmare…school shopping.
With all the stress of summertime and back-to-school shopping, it’s hard to think too far ahead. But as quickly as the summer flies by, the holidays also seem to come in the blink of an eye. And we all know which holiday the kids look forward to most. Halloween shopping!
Annoying Orange Mask

We all know (probably too well) that last minute Halloween shopping is a nightmare. A little pre-planning can really go a long way in preventing Halloween mishaps. Make sure that your kids (and yourself if you’re dressing up this year) know exactly what you want to be at least a month before Halloween. My theory in making that BIG, IMPORTANT decision is “the sooner, the better”. When you know exactly what you’re looking for there is much less of a risk of not finding what you need and want. Most people shop for Halloween costumes and accessories too close to the big day and end up disappointed that they can’t find the size or style that they were looking for. Start thinking and planning right now!
Do you have any ideas yet? If so, what are they? Maybe your kids are still too little to come up with their own ideas and you still get to decide for them. Or maybe your kids think they’re old enough to decide but have the most outrageous (and hilarious) ideas that are nearly impossible to put together. No matter what ideas you have or don’t have…the most important thing is to be safe and HAVE FUN. Happy Halloween!
